Mandal Reloaded
The quota system that we have here in our country is something that always used to bother me when I was growing up. I have seen my uncles who despite of getting good marks were not able to get jobs up to their potential. I was worried coz thought of landing to same destiny was inevitable. Thanks God that there is Boom in market since 2003 and we have so many MNC and Desi companies.
Now there is talk in Delhi about enforcing 50% reservation in premier institute like IITs and IIMs. Naturally this question “How effective its going be in improving the status of backward class?” pops up in our mind.
Lets me tell you about one of my states, unlike other I belong to Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, In Chhattisgarh there is almost 70% reservation in Professional Exam (50%(SC+ST+OBC) + 16.5(girls) + 3-4% to relative of Army personnel and freedom fighter. A student coming from modest background and general category hardly has any chance in getting good seat. We don’t get tired in cursing our education system and reiterating this again and again that there is fall in standard in students, but we forget that by increasing reservation we are actually jeopardizing chances of getting a better student.
I do accept that still today people coming from so called backward classes, are relatively poor and are not as financially sound as say a person coming from “forward caste”. But what I have seen, at least in Chhattisgarh, that 70% of reserved category student who finally got admission were economically well off. I mean they enjoyed all the luxury in their life also studies less or were not competitive enough but got better seat then their “upper caste counterpart”. But on other hand there are other backward people who are living in extreme interior of Chhattisgarh hardly know anything about that this quota system. First and foremost thing that government should do is to make people aware of these existing plan then only revise current structure. To say make people aware is easy thing on contrary it is really a hell of a job. For that our established Dalit brothers have to go out and spread this information to the needy people. I mean they know better then us whom to contact and what exactly barriers are in improving social structure. Lets us not allow these politician in creating barrier between us. Lets not put brake in country booming economy say no to this increase in quota.

Lost in Transition
Life in last 10 months has totally changed. I still remember the fun we use to have in IIT Kanpur. Throughout my life I avoided working hard I mean I use to work hard enough but not to this extent that I am doing these days. One of my well wisher mailed me that hope from coming week your work load will decrease, I replied him that this is not an option either there is so much work that u cannot complete it or you will just manage to complete it.
